Temporal arteritis

Also known as giant-cell arteritis, is a type of vasculitis that affects medium to large arteries in the head. Patients with temporal arteritis can have symptoms like migraine headaches, jaw claudication, sudden vision loss and tenderness over the temporal artery. Temporal arteritis is associated with Polymyalgia Rheumatica, which is an inflammatory disorder causing muscle pain and stiffness around the shoulders and hips, commonly seen more in elderly patient.

Diagnosis of temporal arteritis can be made by blood work (such as erythrocyte sedimentation rate, granulomas) and taking samples (biopsies) of vascular tissue.

Treatment for Temporal arteritis is HIGH-Dose Steroids.
