How to Collect Blood Cultures

Drawing blood cultures is easy once you know what to do. Always remember though that a set of blood cultures is 2 bottles at one site along with another set or 2 more bottles at another site. When I first started for some reason, I kept thinking that the 2 bottles alone were a set. However, they are only one set. They consist of 1. aerobic and 1. anaerobic bottle. This is because some bacteria survive better in oxygenated areas and others survive better in the absence of oxygen. This way you could find bacteria that grew in both environments.
